Yoshimaru Ramen Bar Review

Yoshimaru Ramen Bar has got to be one of the best ramen places in Singapore!

Unsurprisingly, it's located at Holland Village (with all the good food haunts).

The defining element of their ramen would be their thick broth, simmered with pork trotters over high heat for quite a number of hours. Their signature Tonkotso ramen has a rich buttery texture, and an intense flavour. It was sinfully pleasurable just slurping down the delicious broth (but it got a little oily for my liking afterwards).

I got their Traditional Hakata Ramen ($12.90).

Before you get your ramen, the staff would give you a little mortar and pestle for you to grind your own sesame seeds that could be added to your ramen later. It was quite a novel experience for me. The nutty aroma from the sesame seeds was super nice, and the seeds were fresh and crunchy.

Tiny fat droplets swimming around on the broth's surface kind of put me off a little but for the sake of taste, I really shouldn't be such a health-conscious freak. The handful of thinly sliced green onions and cloud ear mushroom was a breath of freshness when the buttery flavour gets slightly overwhelming. I especially enjoyed the soft-yolked soy-sauce tinged egg. Who could resist delicious yolk cooked to the perfect flowy-yolky consistency? The char siew pork belly was also extremely tender. Of course their ramen noodles were nicely bouncy and squiggly.

Various sauces and condiments such as chilli oil, white vinegar, chilli powder and etc were provided at the side for customers to add to their own ramen.

Yoshimaru is definitely a popular dining spot for it was quite crowded even on a weekday evening. Despite their many customers, service was fast though, and our ramen was served in no time at all. Free iced water is also provided. Guess I'll pay a few more visits there in future! :)

Anyway, check out the Yoshimaru Ramen Challenge. It's so much bigger than my palm! How do you even eat that much ramen? :O
