Saigon Xpress Review

Who knew that VivoCity's rooftop had a small Vietnamese eatery tucked away in a corner? Feeling adventurous that day, I decided to have my virgin Vietnamese food experience at Saigon Xpress, a relatively unknown place to most.

The shopfront may seem small and unimpressive but Saigon Xpress, with its low volume of crowds, has the perfect atmosphere for friends or couples to bond over a meal.

The Non-Las (Vietnamese conical hats) hung on the walls exuded an exotic feel to the restaurant.

Their self-service concept resembles the typical hawker centre's system, where you place your order at the counter, pay, and then get your own condiments from their counter at the side. If you're unfamiliar with which type of sauce goes well with your order, fret not. The restaurant has very kindly labelled everything and provided a guide on which-goes-on-what.

The Supreme Rice Vermicelli ($11.50) had a generous portion of cold rice vermicelli, grilled pork slices, chicken chunks, cucumbers, carrots and a sprinkling of grated roasted peanuts. It sure reminded me of a salad. The golden-brown crispy spring roll is a definite showstopper. It was pure bliss feeling the fried skin crunch in your mouth with each bite. The savoury filling further enhanced the overall taste of the dish. With their sweet and sour fish sauce drizzled over the vermicelli, the originally-bland vermicelli immediately shot a few notches up the "taste-meter".

Their Beef noodles ($9.00) had tender beef slices and an amazing broth that was both delectable and distinctively refreshing.

With their pocket-friendly prices and fantastic taste, Saigon Xpress definitely deserves a second visit.
