Chinese-styled Braised Beef Slices

On rare occasions when I decide to go against my better judgement and actually eat red meat at home, I opt for cooking Chinese-styled Braised Beef Slices, a pretty tasty appetiser to start off any family dinner.

(serves 5)
- 500g beef
- 1 Star Anise
- Dark soy sauce
- Salt and sugar
- Chinese Shaoxing wine

1. In a pot, boil water. Add beef into boiling water and cook for 2-3 minutes.
2. Remove beef.
3. In a pressure cooker, add in 1 Star Anise, a tablespoonful of salt, and 400g water. Cook at high heat for 7 minutes and then cook at low heat for 8 minutes. Ensure that the meat is fully submerged in the water (cut the meat into smaller slabs if it is too big.)
4. In another pot, add in 0.5 teaspoonful of Shaoxing wine, 1 tablespoonful of dark soy sauce, and 0.25 teaspoonful of sugar. Pour in some soup from the pressure cooker into this pot and allow for sauce to cook. Add salt to taste.
5. Place beef into the small pot and let the sauce simmer for about half an hour, or till the flavour is fully infused into the beef.
6. Remove beef to cut into thin slices. Allow it to cool.
7. Place beef slices in plate and drizzle sauce over.
8. Serve
